Summer 2008 Game Challenge

Make Your Own RPG - We're Here to Help!

A Brief Introduction

The submissions are in! More on this news-item here.

Make a game by Saturday the 2nd of August at Midnight. Upload your manuscript here. Encourage your fellow participants. Play some games- locally or online - when you're done.

Participants are encouraged to make their game according to the Secret Ingredient: "Write your game for an audience that's never played a role playing game before."

In addition, participants choose three additional ingredients from the list below. This list will continue to grow in the forums until Monday afternoon or so.

More information about the rules, such as they are, can be found in the forum here.

Finally, if you have any suggestions for how to make the site prettier, better organized, or more useful, leave a reply in this forum thread.

The History:
It all started with a conversation. I told my friend about Game Chef and 24 Hour RPG. Shortly thereafter, we got pretty excited about doing our own Game Chef-like Challenge. I talked about it on my blog. But it didn't stay contained. Soon it spread to this (sadly, private) Yahoo! Group, while simultaneously hanging out on my and two other LiveJournals. Things were getting out of hand. But in an almost good way, ya know?

This Ning thing is an attempt to centralize all information and discussion about the Challenge.

Ingredients in the Kitchen

The Secret, central ingredient for the Challenge is:

"Write your game for an audience that's never played a role playing game before."

Information about where this ingredient came from and what to do with it can be found here.

Pick three or more of the following ingredients to jump-start your imagination. Don't like these? Make your own!

Listed in the order they were suggested:

I'm ready to dedicate some time to this site again, and with luck I'll drag a few folks along with me. In fact, the dragging has already started! I sent off the manuscripts to the super-secret non-gamer judge a few days before Gen Con, and Buddha Davis started up a Peer Review Thread!

As of right now, I… Continue
