Summer 2008 Game Challenge

Make Your Own RPG - We're Here to Help!

Yes, that's the name of my game. This one really tries to hit George's secret ingredient hard. In fact, this game may be so accessible that it isn't really an RPG. I'm working on advanced rules that would get more actual role-playing into it, maybe even let the players narrate what happens to them rather than being mechanistically determined by the skills chosen.

Ingredients: Design an RPG for someone who's never played an RPG. Use a non-dice, non-cards randomizer. "Initiated" as in, the rules are player-initiated. And "Pain" because skills are as likely to inflict pain on users as they are to distribute rewards.

I see this as a game a couple of five-year-olds could play.

This is also going to use a slightly different spinner than Beasts of Burden, which I'll have up by the weekend.

Here's the new spinner. On the advice of Buddha, I increased the size of the Oh, Crap and Sweet! areas. I'm thinking the maximum nudge should be +/-15, which would mean that you always have a 5% to 65% chance of success, a 30% chance of failure, and a 5% to 65% chance to blow it badly.
